Why do police torture people in a supposedly prosperous country, Malaysia?
Human rights abuses, beating the detainees etc are common practices in Malaysia. In economically prosperous countries it doesn’t happen? Is the ideology not compatible with human rights and democracy?

A properous country … ?! Nah
Of course it is against human right to torture ppl. It is indeed a very serious crime for the reasons of
-politics
-covering-up of corruption or crimes
-money
-forcing them to admit to charges when they are innocent
In fact, there isn’t any legal reason to do so … there’s why, they will cover up their identity when they do it …
In 1st world country, when they are found abusing their power, severe punishment will follow as the people have all the rights to raise their voice. The people not only have the right to question the behavior of police, they have all rights to question even the President’s decisions. This is called real democracy (people’s power) and human right. This will actually lead to a ‘cleaner’ and more effective government who must act towards the people’s benefits or face the consequences.
In some 3rd world countries, the goverment indeed control them and use them for political and personal purposes … they are tools for the politicians personal benefits … Although the G claim that there is democracy, there are human rights, the people are in fact, not allow to say anything beside praising them or face the consequences. The worst is, some dumb people will blindly support their so-called heros who do more bad than good to the country. They call it ‘patriotic’ … they accept that they are the slaves of the G. They accept that they have no human rights, no democracy … and nothing but some poor little freedoms that the G ‘dump’ at them. They accept all the nonsenses the G give (i.e. for public interest, for democracy ….) where very apparently, all actions taken are just to strengthen the position of the G (G are politicians in 3rd world) by removing people’s power and rights … Indeed, they also have been successfully removing the brain out of some people. All this will only lead to a more corrupted and ineffective G where the only focus is to gain benefits for the politicians.
How dumb?! how ‘patriotic’ and how pathetic …

Oh my God, USA has no human right?
Let me ask you … how come you know that USA army tortured the Iraq people in the jail?
BECOS USA who upholds human rights and will never tolerate such matters. That’s why they broadcasted the news worldwide, they punished the amry-at-fault, they admitted and they apologised for their mistakes. If they have no human rights, do you think people like you and me will learn about it? If they have no human rights, who has?
Look at the 3rd world nearest to you, have they ever admitted any mistakes on human rights? They argue all the way out with non-senses. Racist discrimination can be termed as good for the country, ‘robbing’ the minority to support the majority is termed as fair, the minority who are weak are termed to be ’strong’ while the majority who are strong are termed to be ‘weak’ just to argue for the unjust policies … black they can say is white and vice versa just for their own interest …
If USA is like the 3rd world, they will cover up the news. If the news leak out, they can argue all the way through … one typical excuse –> “those photos are fake !” …. You think they can’t?! And let me tell you, many times, USA citizens are so powerful in their ‘human right’ that they put their President in deep sh!t …
Look at Mr. Bill Clinton … the USA citizens wanted to remove him BEFORE end of his tenure, not becos of his affair with xxx but because he LIED to the people for denying it. He only managed to keep his presidency after apologized to all the USA citizens and the citizens ACCEPTED his apology and FORGAVE him.
Look at the 3rd world nearby, how many lies after lies had they told the people? Do the people have any right to question them at all?
………,,,,,,,,,,,,,……..,,,,,,,,,…………
And when there are mistakes, why people just can’t admit that it is their mistakes and improve on it. Instead, they deny it, start bringing in others who are not as ‘WORSE’ as them and trying to prove that it is not that bad … So if it is not that bad, walla, it is good ;) So if it is good, it should be praised, Yeah !!!
How is it going to help the country if all mistakes are ‘resolved’ this way?

I can see your hatred against USA had reached a stage that everything USA does are wrong, anything against USA is right … If you think you feel happy that way, it is up to you :)
USA has nothing to do with me and USA has never done anything to our country. I neither pro nor against her. I can see how she projects herself professionally to the world and I really respect her.
In terms of human right/people’s power, any USA citizen can ‘f’ their President for his mistakes in PUBLIC. Can we? Why everyone here dares to quote the full name and ‘f’ President Bush but no one dares to quote the full name and ‘f’ the XXX (see I dare not!) in PUBLIC?
The whole world is not blind. Most accusing “evidence’” given by the haters are proven to have no ground at all most of the time. e.g. when 911, they say USA bombed their homeland to invade Afghan?! As for the Bali bombing in Indonesia, they say USA did it cos only USA got C4 and USA want to invade Indo … so so so many I had heard …
And I had seen the international TV programme held by independant TV station in Eqypt where an USA spokeman and a leader of ‘terrorists’ in Iraq were having tele-conferencing. Look at how the two parties presented themselves to the world, one said “war war war, kill kill kill, die die die’, the other said “let’s stop the war and start building schools, houses … together for the people and the children of Iraq …”. I guess you know who is who.
Btw, just some news for your reading pleasure …
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/11/20071127-2.html
The whole world know who are working hard for peace and who are working hard to screw it up …
I aint even gonna begin to start explaining…
Iron fist… and welcome to reality….
there is no democracy lol..
Guantanamo Bay. The Tuskegee Experiment.
In economically prosperous countries, it is easier to hide human rights abuses. I fully concede that it was a horrible thing to happen, however, it is not that being prosperous is antonymous with torture; torture and other human rights abuses occur regardless.
Also, it is not common practice in Malaysia for human rights abuses to occur. It is just the uninformed, ignorant people who have never been to Malaysia who think so, because the only news they ever hear about Malaysia is bad.
However, if we were to form our opinions of countries based on what news we hear internationally, we would probably never leave our own. For instance, if I were to base my entire opinion on the US off what I hear in the news, I would think that it’s a terrible country… However, I came to the US with an open mind and found that yes, although there are some parts of it I don’t enjoy, I truly enjoy a lot of it as well. I enjoy living here.
So before any other ethnocentric fools give me a thumbs-down, think about it. I am not accusing anybody of anything. Just being myself, being from Malaysia, knowing that there is good and bad in the country, and in every country. And if you want to give me a thumbs-down, do it. Why the fnck do i care?
It’s all related to politics and other matters.
Let’s see the 1st world country, the head of the world, US which talks about human rights all the time. But see, the human rights ideology country’s armies also torture the Iraq people in jail. So where’s human right?
Torture happens anywhere, even by the “leader of the free world” i.e. US. At least Malaysia is way better than the US. We don’t run Guantanamao Bay-like prisons and we never have secret prisons equipped with torture chambers throughout Europe.
Edit: PP, your point is lame. You are arguing that US uphold human rights by saying their media can report anything. Yes, everything is reported, that’s why the US had secret torture prisons throughout Europe. The fact that there is media freedom doesn’t stop human rights abuse by the US. Instead they have a solution, build torture chambers outside the US and make it secret. Of course this has been made exposed by the Europeans but I won’t be surprised they building new ones somewhere in Latin America or Africa as the Europeans are no longer cooperative.
Technically, it is correct that there is respect in human rights in the US, because the Americans are torturing people only outside US borders. Gitmo is in Cuba by the way.
Lastly, you give Clinton as an example? He’s not the ones who caused deaths of thousand and Iraqis and tortures in Gitmo and Abu Gharib. Clinton was impeached for screwing an American while nobody bother GWB screwing the world.
The elected side of politician is corrupted and the police is just a crap bunch of bulldogs with corrupted enforcement.. That is why it happens. .. These are the factors where some of the human right characteristics are denied or improperly applied.
These elected politician is rather a big liar and talking crap to the people and the people knew what is all about and some are getting tired and angry when they find out the truth which had being revealed by the elected government officers.. The politician here only cares about money.. They don’t care what kind of money it is, even it is a bribe one.. in fact my company which had already 10 years investing in this country still have to ‘feed’ some of the well known politicians here. But still some people are too blind for this kind of circumstances.
I agree Guantanamo is also one of the stupidity which deploy by the United Sucks of America.. In fact the USA are also denying the human rights in Iraq in the occupation, supporting the Israel of killing more people including women and children in Palestine and even in their own country where George Wicked Bush creates more unemployment for his people here..and these news are all excellently covered by their media..especially CNN.
For Malaysia..I don’t know what kind of democracy here which doing some false elections. That’s a pity for a so-called democratic country.
Democracy in Malaysia is to stand by these corrupted, greedy and biased government. They have taken the people for granted and now when the people stand up and voice their opinions, they will be detained. Why can’t the police just issue a permit? But they won’t, cause this corrupted government wants control and fear the people will grow in millions against them.
that the only way to get a confession other than detective works
Why did malaysian polis tortures their detainees.
It boils down to the polis level of education, mentalities ,altitude and lack of enforcements by not following standard policing procedures.
Abuses of human rights is the normal practice in Malaysia and it is condone by the malaysian government.
In a way malaysia is seen as a prosperous country but its wealth is and was not benefited by ordinary citizens.
It is not that malaysian kept on voting in this crooks as government, but they won by means of gerrymandering voting constituencies.
In advance or first world countries they do have cases of police abuses. But such cases are NOT swept under the carpet like in Malaysia.Plus they have effective police complains bureau.
In short, its all boils down to the type of government system elected as well as lack of oppositions.
they do what they need to do, following the orders. have you heard about what Hindraf done some days ago. now, the leader get caught under ISA.. if we still remember, that same thing happened few years ago for the ex-prime minister where people have a street protest… there is no leader get caught by ISA for that act..
the conclusion is, same situation but different order given.. police only follow the order
